Monica Pulis joined Westlake Academy in 2017 as a Fourth Grade Teacher. Her goals are to build a collaborative culture in her classroom, cultivate life-long learners, and have fun learning.
Mrs. Pulis spent the last 5 years at Uplift Summit, an IB charter school in Arlington, as a 3rd grade teacher. In addition to teaching 3rd grade at Uplift Summit, she was also 3rd grade team lead for four years and the Staff Culture Committee Head. She was also a Content Teacher Leader for Uplift for four years, writing 3rd grade science and humanities curriculum for the district and leading professional development for teachers. She was also a member of Uplift Aspiring Leaders Program in 2014-2015 and Teaching Trust's Ed Fellows in 2015-2016. Before teaching in Uplift, she spent a year in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD as a long-term substitute.
Her greatest teaching accomplishment thus far was being awarded Teacher of the Year in May 2015. In January 2016, Mrs. Pulis was chosen as the teacher-elected speaker, to give a TED-style talk, at the Extra Yard Teachers Summit held at Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas. Mrs. Pulis was also one of the top 10 teachers in North Texas awarded by the Dallas Mavericks and The UPS Store in the 2015-2016 school year.
Mrs. Pulis is a proud Bearkat and Maverick! She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Sam Houston State University in May 2010 with a B.F.A in Musical Theatre. In December 2016, she graduated from University of Texas-Arlington with her M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction with a 4.0 GPA (she is very proud of that!).
Mrs. Pulis is married to her college sweetheart, Ryan. They are expecting their first child in late September. Mrs. Pulis enjoys traveling, spending time with family, enjoying her favorite Netflix shows, and eating Mexican food!
