Amy Wessels joined Westlake Academy in 2015 and joined our Grade 3 Team. In 2018, Mrs. Wessels was named the Teacher of the Year for the Primary Years Programme. Mrs. Wessels graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She continued her education by earning a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Prior to moving to the area, Mrs. Wessels taught in a multi-age program and has experience teaching 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. She has also served as an instructional coach and Austin Independent School District reading, writing, and math curriculum trainer.
Mrs. Wessels holds certificates in Gifted & Talented, English as a Second Language, and a coaching endorsement. Beginning School Year 2018-2019, Mrs. Wessels will be the Westlake Academy Dyslexia Reading Specialist. She attended an intensive training program at Scottish Rite Hospital and is in the process of earning yet another distinction: Academic Language Specialist. Her desire is to support students to surpass their potential by providing an environment where knowledge, skills, critical thinking, and universal human values are fostered and developed. It is her goal to prepare students to become internationally minded through the IB learner profile and visible learning.
In her spare time, Mrs. Wessels enjoys spending time with her family, and enjoys reading, being outdoors, and all types of sports.
