Shannon Ward joined Westlake Academy in 2014 where she leads our Special Education Program. She graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Science in Curriculum and Instruction and a Master of Education in Educational Psychology. Mrs. Ward is certified 1st - 8th grade general education, PreK-12th grade generic special education, and English as a Second Language. She has taught in both private and public schools for more than 18 years. She has taught First Grade, primary physical education, special education, and coordinated and taught Title One services. The majority of her teaching has been in the area of special education.
She works to create a classroom where students feel safe to be risk-takers, where communication between teachers, students, and parents is one of empathy and caring, and where respect, cooperation and tolerance are the norm.
Mrs. Ward and her husband Gary have 3 children, one of whom attends Westlake Academy.
