Suzi New joined the Westlake family in 2013, and she has been a career English teacher for 20+ years. Suzi previously taught in HEB ISD with extensive experience in AP, DP IB, and GT curriculum. She received HEB ISD’s Distinguished Teacher Award from 2006-2013, the Global Excellence Award for exemplary AP and IB examination results, and she was also honored as an Educator of Distinction and subsequent Top Ten Claes Nobel Teacher for 2013 from the National Society of High School Scholars. Suzi spent time abroad in an undergraduate scholar’s exchange with Oxford University, and she eventually graduated cum laude from Abilene Christian University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Suzi has partially finished a graduate degree in gifted education, and she has attained a gifted endorsement. Before beginning a career in education, Suzi worked for Blackwell’s Publishing in Oxford, England. She has travelled extensively abroad with her British husband, Martin, and their primary-age daughter, Izabella Rose, who proudly proclaims that, “Westlake is her life.” Suzi is passionate about creativity because she believes that we are all artists, and we consistently find meaning as we define our artistry. She also believes the enduring quest for excellence is clothed in gentility and kindness.
