April has taught English in both the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Programme at Westlake Academy spanning grades 8-12, and she has worked as an IB Examiner for the HL English Literature course since 2014. Prior to coming to Westlake in 2008, April taught high school English for six years, first at Episcopal Collegiate School, a small, private, college-prep school, and then at the historic Little Rock Central High, a large, urban public school. Before teaching high school, April earned her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Arkansas and later worked as a graduate assistant for two years in the English department at the University of Central Arkansas, where she earned her master’s degree in British and American Literature. Her first career was in corporate real estate, and she held jobs after college with the Wal-Mart Corporate offices in the field of real estate research and later with Mercantile Bank in corporate property management. April and her husband now live in Fort Worth with their daughter, Abby, who is a senior this year at Westlake Academy.
