Mrs. Harrell has taught English in both the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Programme at Westlake Academy spanning grades 8-12, and she has worked as an IB Examiner for the HL English Literature course since 2014. Prior to coming to Westlake in 2008, she taught high school English for six years, first at Episcopal Collegiate School, a small, private, college-prep school, and then at the historic Little Rock Central High, a large, urban public school. Before teaching high school, Mrs. Harrell earned her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Arkansas and later worked as a graduate assistant for two years in the English department at the University of Central Arkansas, where she earned her master’s degree in British and American Literature. Her first career was in corporate real estate, and she held jobs after college with the Wal-Mart Corporate offices in the field of real estate research and later with Mercantile Bank in corporate property management. Mrs. Harrell and her husband now live in Keller and can be seen supporting their new favorite college team - The University of Virginia Cavaliers, as her daughter Abby, a WA graduate, heads there this Fall. In her spare time, she enjoys watching old movies (Alfred Hitchcock anyone?).
