Rhoda is a Chicago Native who has enjoyed Texas since 2008. She attended the University of Illinois at Chicago and received a degree in Biological Sciences. Rhoda's personal plans going into college were to become a doctor, but the pathway of life led her to Texas, and to teaching science. In May 2017 she received her Master’s in Education studying Digital Learning and Leading through Lamar University. She is currently teaching MYP Biology and Year 2 DP Biology and this is her 4th year at Westlake Academy.
Rhoda's most recent teaching engagement was at Coppell High School where she taught Pre-AP and IB DP Biology. It is her joy to create authentic experiences in an active learning environment. Rhoda's philosophy can be summed up in the following quote from Antoine De Saint-Exupery: "If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people together to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea." Rhoda's classroom is filled with students developing a desire for inquiry and exploring scientific solutions. She is an Apple Distinguished Educator, Class of 2015. In her spare time, Rhoda likes to enjoy Tex-Mex, do DIY home projects, and enjoys snuggles from her 2 boys-Simon (3 yo) and Grayson, born May 2017.
