Dr. Chen joined Westlake Academy in 2013 and teaches Science in the MYP and DP. Dr. Chen is a native Texan who grew up near the Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from UT Austin and his Master’s and PhD in Immunology from the UT Health Science Center, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. He completed a joint Postdoctoral Fellowship in 1998 at the Schepens Eye Research Institute and in the Department of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, after which he joined the faculty as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School. In 2004, Peter accepted an Assistant Professor position at the UT Southwestern Medical Center, Department of Ophthalmology and the UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Dallas, TX. Peter’s laboratory pursued immune-related research on ocular tumor therapy and corneal transplantation resulting in 45 peer-reviewed publications. He also taught graduate-level courses, and has either mentored or co-mentored eight graduate students who received their Doctorate. Peter’s vision for science at Westlake Academy is to share his teaching and research experience to guide students in scientific inquiry, research, and discovery in STEM and biomedical science careers.
Dr. Chen has two children, both of whom are students at Westlake Academy.
