MYP students are at a time of uncertainty, sensitivity, susceptibility, resistance, and questioning. Our MYP staff is magical as they work together to support the school’s mission by preparing our students to be life-long learners who are confident, responsible and caring.
Westlake Academy aligns the IB requirements with the Texas Education Agency’s course requirements. The curriculum model is comprised of eight academic areas surrounded by the learner profile, key concepts, global contexts, approaches to learning and teaching, personal project and service as action. Emphasis is intentionally placed on the inter-relatedness of the subjects and the skills of inquiry-based learning that are integrated throughout the teaching model.
The MYP curriculum is assessed using a criterion related approach. Each subject has four objectives that are assessed using IB designed criteria. Teachers use a combination of formative and summative assessments in the MYP. Formative assessments are integrated into daily classroom lessons and activities. Summative assessments occur at the end of each unit and enable students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of their learning. The MYP send home written reports four times a year, however students and parents are able to electronically access student progress on a daily basis through ManageBac.
Our Middle Years Programme is a uniquely designed program for students. It is a time where students explore many new possibilities for themselves and their learning. Students are pushed to reach their fullest potential and are encouraged to grow and develop in these critical stages of development.
