National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)

To be eligible for membership in the National Junior Honor Society, a student must be a member of the 7th or 8th grade and have three semesters of middle school grades with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 90% (unweighted). The student must have been in attendance at Westlake Academy for a minimum equivalent of one semester. Membership in the National Junior Honor Society is not based on scholarship alone. Also included for consideration are the student’s leadership abilities, service as action, and character. The process of selecting new members for the National Junior Honor Society is as follows:

  • An eligible student is invited to fill out and return a Student Application form. These forms must be completed and returned to the National Junior Honor Society sponsor for the student to be considered further.
  • Teachers are asked to complete an evaluation form rating each eligible student on leadership, service, and character.
  • The National Junior Honor Society Council selects new members based on the teacher evaluations and application combined.  The council is made up of Westlake Academy faculty members.
  • Discipline referrals, recurring instances of absenteeism as well as failure to turn in homework/complete assignments and uniform refractions will be taken into account when applications are reviewed.
