Secondary School
Welcome to Westlake Academy Secondary School
At Westlake Academy, our Secondary School is where intellectual curiosity meets purpose. Serving students in Grades 6–12, our program is rooted in the International Baccalaureate (IB) continuum—beginning with the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and culminating in the Diploma Programme (DP). Together, these programs empower students to think critically, act compassionately, and engage meaningfully with the world around them.
The Middle Years Programme (Grades 6–10)
The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) emphasizes intellectual challenge and real-world connection. Students are encouraged to explore ideas across disciplines, make practical connections between their studies and global issues, and develop into active, internationally minded learners. Through inquiry and reflection, MYP students build personal understanding, confidence, and a sense of responsibility within their community.
The Diploma Programme (Grades 11–12)
The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is a rigorous two-year curriculum recognized by leading universities worldwide. This inquiry-based liberal arts program promotes critical thinking, problem solving, and intercultural understanding. Students are encouraged to:
-
Ask challenging questions
-
Learn how to learn
-
Develop a strong sense of identity and culture
-
Communicate and collaborate across cultures
Diploma candidates study six academic subjects—three or four at the higher level (HL) and two or three at the standard level (SL)—over two school years. In addition, every DP student completes three core requirements central to the program’s philosophy: the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and Creativity, Action, Service (CAS).
Westlake Academy aligns its DP curriculum with Texas Education Agency (TEA) standards, ensuring that our students meet both state and international expectations.
IB for All
At Westlake Academy, we believe that every student benefits from an IB education. All Grade 11 and 12 students are full diploma candidates who sit for the IB exams at the end of their senior year. For the past four years, at least 90% of our graduates have earned the prestigious IB Diploma—well above the global pass rate of 80–85%.
