Honor Societies

To be eligible for membership in the National Junior Honor Society, a student must be a member of the 7th or 8th grade and have a minimum of three semesters of middle school grades with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 92% (unweighted). The student must have been in attendance at Westlake Academy for a minimum equivalent of one semester. Membership in the National Junior Honor Society is not based on scholarship alone. Also included for consideration are the student’s leadership abilities, service as action, and character. The process of selecting new members for the National Junior Honor Society is as follows:

• An eligible student is invited to fill out and return a Student Application form. These forms must be completed and returned to the National Junior Honor Society sponsors by the due date for the student to be considered further. 
• Selection of members to the chapter will be by a majority vote of the faculty council. The faculty council will be made up of (5) voting faculty members of Westlake Academy.  No principal or assistant principal may be included on the Faculty Council.
• Students who have committed Level II and/or Level III discipline during the current school year of application will not be considered for membership during that school year.  
• Academic dishonesty at all levels will immediately disqualify any student from consideration for membership.
• Recurring instances of failure to turn in homework/completed assignments and uniform refractions will be taken into account when applications are reviewed.

 
Membership requirements include:

• Attendance at NJHS meetings during the school year
• Membership dues
• Participating in NJHS projects each year
• Meeting the service points (MYP) requirements each year
• Any member who falls below the Westlake Academy standards of scholarship, leadership, character, and/or service may be dismissed from the Westlake Academy chapter of the National Junior Honor Society.

NJHS Bylaws

The National Art Honor Society was established in 1978 in the United States by the National Art Education Association for high school students grades 9-12 from the National Art Honor Society. Its purpose is to assist student members to attain their highest potential in all forms of art, and to raise awareness of art education throughout the school and community.

Mu Alpha Theta is  is the National High School Mathematics Honor Society and is dedicated to inspiring keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school. 

Advisor: Mr. Llewellyn

The Société Honoraire de Français recognizes students who demonstrate outstanding scholarship in the study of French language. The purpose of this society is to recognize high achievement of secondary students in French and to promote a continuing interest in Francophone studies.

The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. The purpose of the society is to recognize high achievement of high school students in the Spanish language and to promote a continuing interest in Hispanic studies. The Westlake Academy La Mancha chapter constitution outlines the requirements for induction and sustained membership. The 2024 induction ceremony is scheduled for 4:30 pm on Thursday, April 25, 2024.
