No Place for Hate Campus

The ADL’s No Place for Hate ® initiative is a school climate improvement framework that provides  K-12 schools with an organizing framework for combating bias, bullying and hatred, which leads to long-term solutions to foster and maintain a positive climate.  Westlake Academy Counseling will initiate a Kindness Council to establish 3 school wide initiatives that send a clear, unified message that Westlake Academy is an inclusive and safe environment for students.  Anti-bias lessons from ADL’s curriculum will also be implemented throughout the year in K-12 to help students advocate for each other’s differences  and challenge bullying, racism, and other forms of hatred.

Character Strong

Thanks to the generosity of a grant from the Westlake Academy Foundation in 2019, Westlake Academy Counseling is able to implement the Character Strong Curriculum for students in K-12 throughout the year.  Character Strong focuses on fostering the Whole Child with age-appropriate, vertically-aligned lessons that teach SEL and character lessons, side-by-side. The topics directly link to the IB Learner Profile traits and ATL skills.  SEL Competencies covered include: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making.  Character Development lessons include: Patience, Kindness, Honesty, Respect, Selflessness, Forgiveness, Commitment, and Humility.
