College Counseling
Westlake Academy’s college counseling program is a customized program that educates students and parents extensively about preparing for college, the college search process, completing applications, financing their education and selecting a college. We want each student to find the “best fit” institution in order to allow them the opportunity to develop their passions and interests.
We meet with each student and family individually, not only to educate the entire family about the process, but also to empower them to navigate the process effectively, so that each child will be able to select the most appropriate institution of higher learning.
The college counseling process begins in the junior year. We hold sessions with students and parents to discuss various topics such as campus visits, essay writing, interviewing, financial aid, and understanding the college application process. We also discuss how to use Naviance throughout the college counseling process. Naviance is a web-based college counseling information system that is a college information resource for students and parents.
Ultimately, our goal is to assist each student in finding the right match. The process is highly personalized and focuses on the desires of the student. We expect each student to take responsibility for researching colleges, registering for tests, completing applications and meeting deadlines.
As we navigate the college admissions process together, it is important for all stakeholders—students, faculty, staff, and parents—to work collaboratively throughout the process. Having an open mind, honest communication, and patience will enable a smooth, healthy, and enjoyable process.
We look forward to working with your family. Please reach out to us if you have any questions about the college counseling program.
