About Westlake Academy Westlake Academy opened in September 2003 in a purpose built facility in secluded and pastoral Westlake, Texas, conveniently located between the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth. Class sizes are small (projected 16 students per class) to encourage individualized instruction. The facilities have been designed to foster a team teaching approach. Westlake Academy will select, recognize and support its teachers based on demonstrated ability, passion for education and compatibility with International Baccalaureate certification standards and training. The selection process is expected to include international applicants who share a passion for education in an unusually progressive environment. Westlake Academy is a Texas Open Enrollment Charter School. Teachers at Westlake Academy are 'Public School' teachers under State law, and are entitled to the same benefits as teachers teaching at traditional school districts.

The Qualifications of the Successful Teacher Candidate
The Academy seeks both teachers from international schools with demonstrated thorough knowledge of the IB programs as well as those who have not yet taught in an IB environment, but are excited about the opportunity to grow their teaching skills to include new approaches.

  • Have completed a Bachelors degree.
  • Have working knowledge of IBO-PYP/ MYP/ Diploma.
  • Possess the relevant Teaching Credentials.
  • Be a good team worker and possess personal initiative.
  • Evidence a constructivist approach to learning.
Foreign contracts include a moving stipend, travel and medical insurance.
