(IB), a non -profit educational organization with 758 IB World Schools in the United States, is proud to anno unce that 42 of its schools have been named to the top 100 of Newsweek’s annual list of “America’s Best High Schools.”
IB World Schools are featured prominently on the list. According to the index, 5 out of the top 10 schools are IB World Schools:
· Stanton College Prep, Jacksonville, Florida (Index 9.204)
· Jefferson County IBS, Irondale, Alabama (Index 9.040)
· Suncoast Community, Riviera Beach, Florida (Index 8.395)
· International Academy, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (Index 8.046)
· City Honors, Buffalo, New York (Index 7.692)
A total of 172 IB World Schools located in 26 states and the District of Columbia made the complete list. In 1998, education writer Jay Mathews of The Washington Post devised the index, which ranks public schools in the US by taking t he number of IB and AP exams offered at a school, divided by the number of graduating seniors, to create a ratio.

“The list demonstrates convincingly that schools of all types are working hard to provide their students with a meaningful and significant secondary school educational experience to prepare them to succeed at university,” said B radley Richardson, Regional Director of IB in North America. “It also underscores the growing recognition among US public schools that a challenging and rigorous curriculum can and should connect young
people to our increasingly complex and interdependent world, helping them not only to understand it, but to thrive in it.”
Founded in 1968, the IB works with more than 2,000 schools in 125 countries to offer and develop its three challenging programs to approximately 530,000 students ranging in ages 3 to 19. The IB encourages students to be active learners, well -rounded individuals and engaged world citizens. It also serves in an educational advisory capacity to other educational organizations.
