REQUIRED DRESS STANDARD
Westlake School Uniform
Westlake Academy believes that appropriate dress and grooming contributes to a productive learning environment in which students can focus on learning, develop an awareness of others, develop character and good citizenship skills, instill respect and self-discipline. Student dress standards also promote a positive image of the school within the community and encourage students to uphold and enhance that image. Students must remain in the required uniform at all times while on campus.
The prescribed uniform can be obtained through French Toast Uniforms : www.frenchtoast.com (please see related information on the right side bar for more details).
PE uniform: Students will be required to wear mesh, navy shorts that are no shorter than 3 inches above the knee and any light colored t-shirt with minimal writing on it. Any printing on the shirts must be non-controversial and appropriate for a school setting. We have found that Wal-Mart and Target both carry these shorts for between $5.00 -$7.00. Students who have PE uniforms left from previous years are more than welcome to continue wearing those.
- Distracting hairstyles, haircuts or distractive hair coloring is prohibited.
- Distracting headwear is also prohibited.
- Nail coloring must not be distractive, and must be neatly applied and maintained.
- Jewelry must complement the uniform. It is limited to simple earrings, a necklace, a bracelet, a ring, and a basic wristwatch. Jewelry is not to be dangerous or of the body piercing type, except earrings. Students may not wear heavy chains, such as studded or wallet types.
- Shoes should be clean, serviceable, and offer protection to the feet. Dress shoes, tennis shoes, and strapped sandals are approved as long as the colors are not distractive to the uniform. Flip-flops and unstrapped or untied shoes may not be worn.
- Matching socks must be worn at all times. Students may wear solid white, khaki, red, or navy blue socks that must extend over the ankle. Girls may wear tights of the same colors as socks.
- Hats or sunglasses are not permitted on campus without the Head of School's permission. Such permission is granted only in religious and medical circumstances or during P.E. activities.
