Welcome from the MYP Principal

Welcome to the Middle Years Programme (MYP) of study at Westlake Academy.  Our goal is to achieve excellence during the middle years educational journey. Students in the MYP encompass students in grades 6-10.   Your partnership is important to us and we thank you for sharing your most precious possession…your child.

Our school community is committed to providing a positive, challenging, and academically oriented learning environment for all students. The MYP is exceptionally unique in that it is an authorized International Baccalaureate MYP Programme of study.  The MYP is instrumental in helping students find success through an interdisciplinary approach that develops the whole child.  The teaching and learning is purposeful in daily lessons, promoting collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity through an interdisciplinary approach, all of which prepare our students to compete globally as 21st century scholars.  It is important to note that the students in these middle years are developing in critical phases of development. To aid in their success, our staff works daily to challenge students with an inquiry, based curriculum designed to enhance achievement in eight subject areas throughout grades 6-10.  Student achievement and academics are also supported through various strands of ATL’s (Approaches to Learning) and the 10 learner profile attributes. Daily, students have opportunities to demonstrate success using these soft skills as disciplined IB scholars.

We have incredible opportunities for our students at Westlake Academy, many of which would not be possible without your help. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to make a difference during these critical years of development. Please know that our doors are always open for the journey ahead.   Again, welcome to the Middle Years Programme.

Here’s to a great year,

Andra’ Barton, Ed.D.
