From the Bradley Library at Westlake Academy:
Prepare for battle… The Battle of the Bluebonnets!
Students in grades 3-5 will have an opportunity to participate in this year’s Battle of the Bluebonnets. Each student who wishes to participate in the battle must read at least five of the Bluebonnet Award nominees for 2017-18 before January 16th. Online voting to determine the winning Bluebonnet Award book for 2017-18 will be held in the library during the following week, January22nd-26th. Many other schools in the state of Texas will be voting, too, and the winning Bluebonnet book is announced in February.
Classroom “gameshow” quiz competitions will be held using questions related to the Bluebonnet nominees. The top winners of classroom quizzes at each grade level will form their own grade level team of experts to compete in the Battle of the Bluebonnets, in the first part of February, against expert teams representing other grade levels. The battle consists of forty questions related to the twenty Bluebonnet books, presented in a quiz show format. The winning team will receive medals and a trophy!

Mock Newbery sessions coming in October!
Read the newly released books published in 2017, and be ready to discuss them in a Mock Newbery book club. If you need suggestions, ask your librarian.
In honor of National Read A Book Day, I am including a link to a Washington Post article that discusses the key components of time and choice and their relationship to reading for pleasure!
